Original Failure: 

The hard drive experienced MCMT corrupted failure, with no host failure reported in the COM terminal.

Failure Symptoms:

  • The hard drive was not detected when plugged in.
  • The drive reported incorrect data locations after the firmware was recovered.
  • The drive was not readable or writeable.

Data Recovery Steps:

  1. The ROM was backed up.
  2. An unlock ROM was generated.
  3. The unlock ROM was written and applied by powering off and on the drive, and sending the unlock key.
  4. The NGlist and other important SYS files were backed up.
  5. The glist and SMART data were cleared.
  6. The translator was regenerated.
  7. The issues with data offset, wrong data locations, and unrecognized data were fixed.
  8. After these steps, all lost partitions were found and all lost data was finally recovered.
